The need to make emergency response training available in English is growing in the Netherlands. This is because an increasing number of companies employ staff of various nationalities. An emergency response course in English is therefore by no means a luxury!

What is BHV in English?
But what exactly is the English translation of ‘BHV’? A BHV officer is known in English as an Emergency Response Officer. The service of in-house emergency response is referred to as Emergency Response Services.
The observant reader will quickly notice that the word ‘company’ does not appear in these definitions. In English-speaking countries, the concept of company emergency response – that is, an internal team of employees who are the first on the scene in the event of an industrial accident – is less common. All the more reason, then, to offer BHV in English as well!
First Aid in English: who is it suitable for?
The English-language First Aid at Work course from 101BHV.nl is suitable for any employee who speaks English. An increasing number of companies based in the Netherlands employ non-Dutch staff. However, these companies are also obliged to comply with the provisions of the Dutch Working Conditions Act regarding first aid at work.
In practice, this means that the content of the emergency response course remains the same. However, the instructors at 101BHV.nl will deliver the theory and practical training to participants in English. The course book and other training materials relating to emergency response are also available in English!
First aid course in English: suitable for beginners and refresher courses
In addition, the emergency response course in English is suitable for both new emergency response officers and those who have already completed a course on previous occasions. What many people do not realise is that completing such a course requires regular refresher training. Keeping employees’ emergency response knowledge and skills up to date is, in fact, a legal requirement. Moreover, having up-to-date knowledge and skills can literally be a matter of life and death. That is why it is recommended to repeat the course, including the English version, annually.
